It's getting easier!

So weight loss has been easier since summer got underway. I wish I lived somewhere where it was always summer! Swimming burns a f*ckton of calories! And where I've been keeping up the protein and water intake, for the most part, I've lost a bunch more weight. Many victories yesterday!

3 Months!

So I had my 3-month post-op appointment for my Roux-en-Y gastric bypass this past week. Wow! Everything is going well. I'm actually down to just the one vitamin plus the iron pill. I saw Marie and Hilda.

Better late than never: Six week post op appointments

Been too tired to do a lot of blogging. But here's what happened at our six week post op appointments. Everything is going well for both L & I. I didn't go to K's, but she reports that she's also doing well. She is mostly stressed from things at work, and they're interfering a bit with her eating.

Still finding my way

Well, the day before yesterday, I got tired of eating hamburger. So I had J go out and get a rotisserie chicken for L & I. And it went down nicely. We put some Italian salad dressing on it to keep it moist. Then last night, I tried to eat some of the leftovers. I was so sick afterward. I had to go to bed at 8:30, and I slept most of the way through until 8:30 this morning. Pain, chills, over full sensations (no fever, though, I checked). It was awful. I'm not loving the whole trial and error eating. The 6th is my day for moving to stage 4 (if I feel ready), so I'm hoping that means I'll feel better by then.

Three-and-a-half Weeks Post-op: This is Hard

Well, I guess it's only hard for some values of the word hard, but still. I forget where I left off. I know that I mentioned I was having trouble getting all my nutrients/supplements in. I didn't lose any weight during the third week, even though I lost about 30 in the first two. In fact, before I went to my two-week post-op visit, I gained back a couple of pounds. WTF. But I think I may be losing a little bit again. This could be related to my basically sleeping all the time lately.

Getting Everything in is Hard

Never let anybody tell you that it's easy to get all your things in post-op. I'm not getting enough protein, because I don't want to eat anything. I'm not getting enough hydration, because everything makes me feel bloated. And I'm not getting in all my pills for he same reason. Bloating. L says that wears off quite a bit by the time I'm where she is. So in less than a week, I guess. Good. I am getting in most of my pills now, though, because I bought the soft chew calcium, and ditched the Wellbutrin. Sixteen quarter-tablets a day was just too much. Tomorrow the Celebrate multivitamin chews get here, so I will find out how those do. Cross your fingers. I did look into gummies. Apparently you'd have to basically take them by the handful to get enough vitamins in. Which, yeah, no.

Still Adjusting - also two week post-op appointment

So I'm still in an adjustment period. I'm learning things all the time. Some things are painful. Pro-tip: Salmon with just lemon and seasoning is painful. Salmon in sugar-free teriyaki sauce is not. (Wow, spell check does not know the work teriyaki. Clearly I did not program this thing.)

The first two weeks Post-Op

So I hope someday I will forget how much I did not enjoy the first two weeks after surgery. Kind of like how you forget how much childbirth hurt in all but the vaguest sense. I'll be all "Oh, it wasn't that bad. It was only two weeks!" OK, I don't actually say that about childbirth, though... hmmm. Well, I've made it through two weeks post-op. My appointments with Erin or whatever PA is available and with Marie are on Wednesday, assuming my car works by then. Otherwise, I'll have to postpone, I guess. Which I do not want to do, but might have to. Medivan doesn't pick up for Concord appointments at 8:30 am, so I didn't even bother to call them. Idk. James will sort it for me, if I can't make it. Anyway, here's how I'm feeling at the two week mark.

Don't do this

So last night, since I wasn't getting in enough protein from the protein shakes, I thought I would make baby-food consistency chicken breast, and eat that. Don't do that. Unless maybe you can make it mostly not chicken breast, and mostly some kind of odd mush. I don't know. I got sick.

My RNY Hospital Stay

So it had been a long time coming, but I finally had my RNY Gastric Bypass on April 6th, 2015. (Two entries ago I described surgery day, which was mostly a blur.) Here's how the rest of my stay went.

Pre-surgery Week Errata

I just realized that I completely forgot to post about my pre-op diet. Derp. So here are some thoughts about my two week diet and various things that happened during it.. It wasn't too bad, being on low carbs. I don't eat a lot of carbs anyway. I was hungry, but not as hungry as I expected. And I think I maybe ate more than I was supposed to eat.

And done: My RNY Gastric Bypass

OK, it's been a long week for me, so I haven't gotten on here to tell my surgery story. But here we go. I went into the hospital on Monday morning, the 6th of April. I drove over there, and J, K, & L were with me. Needless to say, it's a completely different experience when you're the one having surgery. (See previous posts on K & L's surgery days).

Two Down

L went in for her surgery on Monday! That's two of us down, and just me left to go.

Tuesday & Wednesday

As promised, here is what happened on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Nothing huge so far, but here goes anyway.

One Down

K went in for her surgery Monday. L & I drove her there and stayed with her until she was in her room afterward. It was a long day, but it went really well. By the time it's my turn, we're all going to be pros at this.

Final nutrition appointment

So on Monday, L & I had our final nutrition appointments before our surgeries. We went in together, so we got a longer time than we would have separately. Also, L is better at thinking up things to ask than I am. I have trouble coming up with anything I want to know that they haven't told me already.

February

Well, February was hard for me. Seems like every year I'm reminded why I hate it. And this was a bad one. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

January Part 2

Where was I? Right, PCP appointment for my pre-surgery physical. No adventures with that day's medi-van. It took a while to pick me up afterwards, but that was it. Granted, waiting in a hallway with no seating and not much heat wasn't the most fun. But anyway.

January

So yeah, I've been slacking off on the posting. I know. I've had a shit ton of stuff going on, but still. I didn't have many appointments at Emerson in January. And I just had to go look up where I left off in the last post.

Yes, we did the Behavioral Health appointments with Lisa over the phone. She called, and we sat in my room and passed the phone on to the next person when we were done. She gave us some tips and ideas, but mostly it was a check-in about how we're doing, how we're feeling about surgery, if we have any questions or concerns, etc. So that went well. We also had brilliant parfaits for breakfast that day. This is going in my permanent recipe file. Vanilla yogurt, fresh or (plain, no syrup added) frozen berries, pomegranate seeds (they were still in season) and granola. Holy mother of Cthulhu. A huge bowl of it was only 300 calories. After surgery size servings should be extremely low in calories. Awesome. I really like granola. I got some later that has flax seeds in it. I think it's quite a while after surgery before you can eat those, but I'm going to be eating them once I can. They're like little dark sesame seeds, with a slightly different flavor. And I have an insane love of sesame seeds.
